We've got the answers for your questions

Will this event be appropriate for beginnners?

This is a great event for people who are curious about bikepacking. With opportunities to meet experienced and beginner bikepackers, you will have the chance to get all your questions answered. There will also be beginner friendly rides.

What type of bike do I need?

If you are planning to stick to the easier rides, those will mostly be on paved and gravel roads. For these easier group rides, a touring bike, hybrid bike, mountain bike, cyclocross bike, or urban commuter will work perfectly on these roads. It is recommended to use a 28mm or larger tire. If you are planning on joining the rides in the Gatineau Park, it's recommended you have 45mm or larger tires to help navigate the more varied surfaces.

Do I need to pay for camping at the summit?

Yes. Camping will be $30 for the weekend. If you are only planning to camp 1 night, please reach out and I will re-imburse you for the 2nd night.

How many presenters are there?

There will generally be 7 presenters including those leading the workshops.

What is the summit all about?

The Canadian Shield Bikepacking Summit is the perfect opportunity to meet likeminded bikepackers, listen to some motivational presenters, ride bikes, learn some new skills and meet some of the companies that are pushing boundaries in our sport.

Will the group rides have ride leaders?

There will be no official ride leaders, but many of the participants will have downloaded the routes from our collection on RideWithGPS. As we have a tourist account, everyone is able to use the offline maps on their navigation or cellular devices.

What is the plan for food for the weekend?

We will be providing coffee on Saturday & Sunday morning at the Summit venue. There is a bakery just down the road where you can get some breakfast foods/pastries. The restaurant at the venue will be serving food both Friday and Saturday evening. Lunch may be available, but there are many options just a few minutes away in town. Feel free to bring you own food if you would like to cook and keep your costs down.

Will the venue be serving alcohol?

I'm pleased to announce that there will be bar service at Centre Vorlage both Friday and Saturday night.
